Grounding Bus Connectors    Industry: Aerospace

Product: Grounding Bus

Weight and cost reduction were the major drivers behind the development of Array’s Patented Grounding Blocks. Molded-in space-age polymers, the integrated design feature of the Array buses, reduces component count to 6 from 64. This yields a significant reduction in failure mode potential over prior devices and simultaneously reduces weight by over 50 percent. Designed for connecting wire shields to ground to protect sensitive digital circuits from RFI, the Array bus utilizes standard crimp contacts which are individually replaceable if damaged during service or inspection. The result is a neat, efficient, serviceable, low-cost method of terminating shields with a voltage drop of less than 25 millivolts.

Galley-Buffet Connector    Industry: Aircraft Galley

Product: Galley/Buffet Connector

The interior electrical engineering group of one of the world’s largest airframe manufacturers desired a field-serviceable, crimp-terminating connection system to connect ovens and buffet carts in the galleys of next-generation aircraft. Working with OEM galley equipment manufacturers worldwide, Array Connector’s integrated design and manufacturing engineering team developed the ACR system. It quickly became the standard for modern aircraft galleys because of its increased reliability and full field serviceability. This system is also being retrofitted into prior-generation aircraft as it was designed to be interchangeable with pre-existing equipment in the field. In addition, the leading manufacturers of top-of-the-line galley equipment are now specifying them in the galleys and ovens installed in new aircraft produced by all major airframe manufacturers.

Cryogenic SavCon Connector    Industry: Medical Electronics

Product: Cryogenic SavCon

The leading manufacturer of Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment (MRI) determined during its prototype production phase that it wanted to provide protection to the performance-critical super-conductive liquid nitrogen-immersed magnet. The magnet was susceptible to damage during routine maintenance and inspection because it was installed in a tightly-confined, blind environment. Array’s design team analyzed the problem, understood the effects of a 63 degree Kelvin environment on material performance and mating forces, and designed, prototyped and successfully tested its solution in 8 weeks, allowing the manufacturer to maintain its planned market introduction.

Flange-Seal Receptacle    Industry: Industrial Sensors and Controls

Product: Flange-Seal Receptacle

Miniaturization continues with Array’s flange-sealing circular connector with PCB contacts for flex circuit or board. A manufacturer of sensors for use in electronic-hostile environments wanted an I/O connector that would protect the circuitry, provide rapid connection capability, and minimize the space in the box. Available in a number of sizes and pin counts with bayonet or screw mating, the round, flange-seal connector becomes an integral part of the sensor, not just an appended connecting device. These connectors are pressure tested to 30 lbs. psi and are available in a variety of finishes designed to satisfy both electrical and esthetic requirements.

Filtered Connectors    Industry: Electronics

Product: Filtered Connectors

Challenged with an unanticipated EMI problem and customers requiring imminent product delivery, a major electronics manufacturer turned to Array for a solution. Traditional filter connector sources offered 18- to 26-week lead times, which would have caused the OEM to miss critical delivery dates. Array responded, designed and delivered prototypes for testing in six weeks and production in eight. The manufacturer was pleased then and now, five years later, with on-going, on-time delivery of application-specific filtered connectors. Array Engineering works with client teams to produce application-specific planar-filtered connectors in low profile packages for panel, board and flex circuit mounting.
